adler (Christopher A Adler):

It started in a backwater Senior House dorm, on the fringes
of a small galaxy called the Milky Way. One man. One man, with
the courage to take on the Institute, the State, the
Country, The Galaxy, the will power to rival inanimate objects,
and the strength to rule all in his path. He built his empire
on ruthless domination, on merciless and iron-fisted rule.
He conquered, one by one, every planet in the Galaxy. He cut
an every widening swath across the Milky Way.
Chris. They chanted his name. Chris. CHRIS. They wrote his
name with fingers and tendrils and tenticles, on the sandy
beaches of ten billion conquered worlds!
Chris! THE UNIVERSE WAS HIS!

"Think As I Think" by Stephen Crane

"Think as I think," said a man,
"Or you are abominably wicked;
You are a toad."
And after I had thought of it,
I said, "I will, then, be a toad."

"The Book of Wisdom" by Stephen Crane

I met a seer.
He held in his hands
The book of wisdom.
"Sir," I addressed him,
"Let me read."
"Child--" he began.
"Sir," I said,
"Think not that I am a child,
For already I know much
Of that which you hold;
Aye, much."

He smiled.
Then he opened the book
And held it before me.
Strange that I should have grown so suddenly blind.

I know you've all seen the January 15, 1991 issue of that marvelous
piece of journalism, the "Sun". But, in case you haven't, here's the
cover story:

  -----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Revealed: Amazing story of... Pres Bush's Invisible bodyguards"
"Infrared photos expose U.S. secret weapon"

STUNNING INFRARED photos reveal President George Bush is guarded
by invisible Secret Service agents.
What's more, a former CIA operative reveals, the Pentagon has a
battalion of invisible Marines poised for an invasion of Iraq.
The incredible photos were taken by a 23-year-old graduate
student who attends the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. She dabbles in optical and photographic research in her
spare time.
			  -- Infrared film --
Ashley Parris says she used infrared film with a specially
designed and treated lens she developed, and was experimenting with it
when she photogrpahed the invisible entourage with President Bush.
"I also used a special developing process, but I can't go in too
much detail because the FBI and the CIA are very upset over the photos,"
she says.
The young woman has been ordered by the government to pursue her
research at a top-secret Pentagon laboratory.
The former CIA agent has confirmed what Ashley Parris' camera
photographed.
"The Americans have solved the mystery of invisibility and are
ready to use it against Iraq," says Klaus Werner, a former top-level
West German spy and CIA employee.
"The movie 'The Philadelphia Experiment' was closer to the truth
than everybody realizes," the agent continued.
"America plans to send the invisible Marines to Baghdad to grab
Saddam Hussein and his top generals if war breaks out," says Werner, who
is writing a book on his experiences with Project Spook.
Bush, who has had the invisible guards since he took office,
actually masterminded the top-secret experiment while he was head of the
CIA under former President Ford, according to Werner.
			    -- Terrorist --
Bush's life has been saved at least twice by the invisible
guards he helped create, Werner adds.
"The President was at an embassy dinner last spring when an Arab
terrorist, posing as a diplomat, made a sudden lunge for Bush with a
knife while only a yard away," the former agent recalls.
"But, instead of stabbing Bush, he stabbed an invisible Secret
Service agent standing in the way.
			    -- Surrounded --
"Other invisible agents stepped in and overpowered the
terrorist, knocking him to the ground. It happened so quickly that
spectators thought the bogus diplomat had merely fainted.
In another encounter, an invisible agent realized that a
spectator several feet from the President had a gun under his coat. The
agent slipped up close to the man and took the weapon from its hiding
place before the would-be assassin realized what was happening,
according to Werner.
"When you see what seems to be open space around the President,
when he leaves Air Force One or is walking in a crowd, he is really
surrounded by a wall of invisible Secret Service agents," he explains.
			  -- Light bending --
Werner says he not only worked on Project Spook but was also one
of the first to be made invisible.
"It's a very sophisticated technique, difficult for anyone who
doesn't understand advanced physics. But, as I understand it, lasers
are used to bend light so that it can pass through a solid object,
rendering it invisible to the human eye," he explains.
The German says early experiments were unpredictable and
subjects would not know how long they would remain invisible.
"I was just about to stick Khadafy with a hypodermic full of
AIDS contaminated blood when I suddenly became visible. I escaped by the
skin of my teeth.
Fortunately, the process was reactivated as soon as I got out
into the sunlight," Werner says.
In the early days, test subjects also had to deal with dizziness
and a form of sea sickness, he adds.
"I suddenly became nauseous while spying on Iranian terrorists.
Fortunately, when they saw vomit coming out of thin air, they thought it
was a sign from Allah and gave up their plan to put a bomb on a Pan Am
flight to New York."
Now, however, humans can remain invisible for as long as 72
hours. But it takes more than an hour to treat an individual in the
light bending chamber.
The Air Force has had problems with its stealth bomber, too,
Werner claims.
"It works fine as long as the plane is flying in a clear sky.
But if it passes through a cloud, it disturbs electrically charged
molecules, which makes it detectable on radar," he explains.
Bush's Secret Service guards have had to deal with difficulties,
as well, though theirs have been more embarassing than dangerous.
"More than one agent has ended a shift with soggy pant legs and
shoes, the result of dogs mistaking them for lampposts or fire
hydrants," Werner grins.
  -----------------------------------------------------------------------

The article is accompianed by several photos of Bush in various places,
with the invisible bodyguards shown by dashed lines. There is also one
of those special infrared pictures, where you can clearly see a glowing
agent accompianing the first family getting off a helicopter. The cover
photo, which doesn't look like it might possibly have been retouched,
shows Bush and an invisible guard fishing -- the guard is given away by
his fishing pole which is floating in mid-air!

Stop by my office to see the amazing photos...

As you've probably checked by now, Ashley Parris isn't in the moira
database. No doubt, the CIA has removed any trace of her existence here
as a student.

Boy, it sure sounds like these Iraqis are in for it. As if the
invisible Marines mentioned above weren't enough, another article in the
same issue details how the Army has trained killer cats to tear Iraqi
soldiers to bits. Hmm, maybe tomorrow's plan file...
