brlewis (Bruce R Lewis):

From /mit/bible/kjv/jdg.txt:

JDG 4:1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD,
 when Ehud was dead.

JDG 4:2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that
reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in
 Harosheth of the Gentiles.

JDG 4:3 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine
hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children
 of Israel.

JDG 4:4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at
 that time.

JDG 4:5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel
in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

JDG 4:6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of
Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded,
saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men
of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

JDG 4:7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of
Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him
 into thine hand.

JDG 4:8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but
if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.

JDG 4:9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey
that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell
Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to
 Kedesh.

(...)

JDG 4:21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and
fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.

JDG 4:22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and
said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when
he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his
 temples.

are they victims of my leisure?
to fail is to be a victim,

fallas (Evelyn F Smith):

This is a plan. If you don't like it, DON'T READ IT!! I will never understand
people who deliberately read a thing they don't like and then tell everyone
else how much they hated reading it. If you don't like my plan, for everyone
else's sake, don't look at it! Let me be frank: I write my plan for my OWN
pleasure, not for yours!
Now, that taken care of, I must say that God is credited with the good because
He is the cause of everything good. Straightforward enough, I think. And if
you think I'm being a Bible-thumper, so much the better. Without my faith in
Christ, I would have committed suicide long ago. That's the stark truth.
Why is God not credited with the bad? Because He doesn't cause it. How can I
hold God exclusively responsible for the good and not the bad? Because He gave
us all life, and we all sinned against Him. He gave His only begotten Son to
die for our sins and redeem us that we may join him in Heaven. He gives us
grace--mercy we do not deserve. He has, in short, done everything possible to
make our lives wonderful, but we keep fouling things up. Read the Bible. It's
true--God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent; He loves us His children
in spite of what we do.
Look around you. There's a man who invented a machine that kills.
He calls himself a savior because he thinks he's doing something good about
the pain people with terminal diseases suffer. But how can his machine be
considered helpful? It doesn't solve the problem of pain; it just kills the
sufferer. That's no solution!
What about abortion? Oh, boy, I'm really opening myself up to attack
here, but let's face it, ABORTION IS MURDER. If at the time it is done the
fertilized zygote is not yet a separate personality with a soul, it still had
the potential to BECOME a separate personality with a soul. It's that poten-
tial that's being murdered. And spare me the arguements that "women would be
using coathangers and killing themselves otherwise" or that "the mother would
hate the child of her rape" or that "it would be a child of incest, possibly
deformed, almost certainly unhappy throughout his life." (1) I doubt that if
coathangers were necessary, as many women would take the chance. Women may get
desperate, but very few are that stupid. And a coathanger doesn't have coun-
selors persuading you to use them. (2) Maybe the mother would hate the child.
But she could always put it up for adoption. What are we talking here? Nine
months out of all the seventy or eighty YEARS she's going to live! And there
are so many people out there who want to adopt children. And even if the child
is never adopted, THAT CHILD HAS A RIGHT TO LIVE. (3) It wasn't the child's
fault that incest, rape, or deformity or all three are parts of his background.
No one but the child has the right to judge if life is worth living, and even
then, God gave the child his life so that child really doesn't have the right
to take his own life--he owes all his life to God.
I know most people here will disagree with me. I don't ask you to
write encouraging answers, and I don't really care what you think of me as a
person. I don't even know how to read the bulletin board--I just learned about
this all from someone else. (Funny how I can provoke controversy without even
being aware of it. @:D People who insult me make me laugh because they think
I care what they think of me.) I actually enjoy having a reputation as a Bible-
thumper. Thank you all!! (:@ This makes me very happy! Praise the Lord!
If you disagree with me, I pray that one day you will find a reason to change
your mind. And if you agree with me, then let's pray together for all the
people who need Jesus. Forgive the length of this, whoever you all are, and
have fun writing silly answers on the bulletin board I don't know how to read!
(:% &:D @:) (:E this is laughter coming live to you from me

God be with you, and Christ His Son, forever.

"About sympathy, for example. We can do without it. That illusion of a
world so shaped that it echoes every groan, of human beings so tied
together by common needs and fears that a twitch at one wrist jerks
another, where however strange your experience other people have had it
too, where however far you travel in your own mind a someone has been
there before you -- is all an illusion... We do not know our own souls,
let alone the souls of others. Human beings do not go hand in hand the
whole stretch of the way. There is a virgin forest in each; a snowfield
where even the footprints of birds' feet is unknown."

The purpose of MIT is to take (theoretically) the "brightest" people,
and make them into brain-dead zombies dragging themselves from one
caffiene source to another in an effort to get our homework done.

The other purpose of MIT is to make us appreciate the "real world"
(because we're so glad to get out)!!

come up with something neat for my .plan file every day.... Anything

rlcarr (Richard L. Carreiro):

In Fairfield, California, 23 students in the American Studies class at
Fairfield High made a door-to-door survey in the residential section,
carrying what they described as "a possible amendment to the Constitution"
... "Unconstitutional," was one citizen's reaction after reading it.
Another: "Gibberish." A third volunteered that "This would increase the
sale of marijuana" and a fourth scoffed "Sounds like SDS stuff to me"

... Of the 850 Fairfield residents contacted, only 290 though the proposed
amendment should become part of the Constitution and only only EIGHT PER
CENT recognized that it actually WAS a verbatim copy of the First Amendment
to the Constitution ... Report John Silva, who wrote an excellent piece
about this incident for the Vallejo Times-Herald, adds that "one top
Fairfield official refused to sign it, and his wife begged off, explaining
that her husband's job forbade it."
