I do not have any problem with people "looking at the situation more
from the Arab perspective." I believe that the Arabs have been
wronged by Israel in a lot of ways, and that the frequency of Israeli
overreaction and poor judgment has been increasing recently. I also
feel that the West Bank should, as soon as is possible while keeping
Israel secure, become an independent Palestinian state.
However, I'm not sure which of the quotes I posted are more
"reasonable" than the initial ones. I fail to see how the later ones
are any less committed to the destruction of Israel than the former
ones are. Which quotes among the ones I've posted do you consider
"reasonable"? If it makes it easier, you will find most of them in
/mit/jik/random/israel/myths_and_facts/1985/22.
In any case, I do not believe that the quotes I've posted indicate the
hard and fast attitudes of all the Arabs in the Middle East. I am
aware that I was quoting extremists. However, those are the same
extremists that the United States government is negotiating with and
claiming that they "want peace." Those are the same extremists that
the anti-Israel elements in this country are claiming are trying to
put out a hand for peace, which they claim the Israelis are biting
off. Simply put, I think the quotes I posted completely shatter they
myth that the PLO, and most other Arab leaders in the Middle East, are
the ones looking for peace.
