Issawi's Laws of Progress:

	The Course of Progress:
		Most things get steadily worse.

	The Path of Progress:
A shortcut is the longest distance between two points.

henry (Henry Mensch):

They say that love ennobles, but from the day I fell in love, I was
constantly lying to somebody. I didn't do it on purpose; it was just
that people kept asking me the questions which I couldn't answer
truthfully.

"Why do you spend so much time over your hair? Why do you change your
shirt every day?"

"There's a sanitary commission going around school."

"What are you thinking of all the time? You don't seem to notice
anything. And what's that sigh for?"

"My marks. I've gotten some bad marks lately."

"How's that? You didn't get them before!"

"That's what I"m thinking about."

But really, I was thinking about Lilia Tarasova. She had recently
transferred from another school.

Durin the main break, Vladik Babkin came over to me.

"Oh, yes, by the way," he said very casually, indifferently, "have you
seen the new girl?"

"What new girl?"

"The one who's just come. One of the seats at your table's empty. If
she wants to sit there, say it's already taken ... all right? And
send her to me. There's a seat by me that's empty, too. Okay?"

"But why?"

"I can't explain, but it's important!"

Five minutes later, the new girl came up to me.

"Is this place free?"

(more will follow tomorrow...)

"Two guys, one cart, fresh pasta... *you* figure it out."

       1. East and West Germany will meet on economic issues.

       2. German foreign ministers will meet with other foreign
ministers of the world.

       3. France surrenders.

"I'm LATE!!"

"May a leprechaun dance in yer eggnog."

"I can help you find your dreams."

Thank you LSC for the lecture and the movies!

And thank you Mr. Jittlov for showing the Wizard short, which I have now
FINALLY seen after 4.5 years at MIT (so it's a good thing I went here as
