celine (Who Drugged Thumper?):
A few words about the expression 'have fun'.
This unconditional command to have fun is too much for me to
swallow; shouldn't it be qualified? After all, if for individual X
having fun involves hacking everyone in sight with an axe, I would
venture to say society would be against this person 'having fun'.
What are the implications if everyone in society runs around 'having
fun' instead of performing the drudgery that keeps the wheels of our
economy moving? Does society collapse? Is this a bad thing? Does it
prevent everyone from having more fun? Life is not fun; life is a
struggle against poverty, delusion, and boredom, which inevitably (and
perhaps thankfully) terminates. 'Have fun'! No.

sethg (Seth A. Gordon):
From the _New York Times,_ 5 November 1919:
REPORT REDS WILL PROHIBIT CHRISTIAN NAMES FOR CHILDREN
Stockholm--October 15 (AP)--Leaders of Russia's Soviet government
have put a ban on the giving of Christian names to children, it is
reported, because they are considered "reminiscent of the reactionary
system." It is expected that an order will be issues soon forbidding
their use.
Numbers are to be substituted. Thus, three childreb of a family named
Petkoff may in the future be known as "Petkoff one, two and three"
respectively.

Top dog. Top cat.
Shake that muscle and lose that fat...
Bite your lip, get up, get up and dance.
Bite your lip, get up, get up and dance.
Bite your lip, get up, get up and dance dance dance...

"And now, doctor, we've done our work, so now it's time we have some
play. A sandwich and a cup of coffee, and then off to violin land,
where all is sweetness and delicacy, and harmony, and there are no
professors of calculus to vex us with their conundrums."
