lwvanels (Lucien Van Elsen):

The Fields of Hell

In the fields of Hell where the grass grows high
Are the graves of dreams allowed to die.
A neglected grave with a fallen slate
Bears an epitaph, that tells their fate,

  I could have been, but I am not.
  I am the dream that you forgot.

In our busy times we fail to choose
To nourish dreams, which we then lose
And the dreams we lose are left to die
In the fields of Hell, where the grass grows high.

        With steadfastness and careful truth;
      That in our time thy grace may give
        The truth whereby the nations live."
