metric is useful in scientific calculations. Until people "grow up with"
metric (ie. sesame street and in the home) it won't catch on in the us.
Metric is "neat" in a lot of ways, but english measures seem to line up
better on "reasonable" amounts... then again, the US didn't go "metric
by mandate" until 1976 or so, maybe todays munchkins are getting it...
