Philadelphia, suburban, campus setting. Smith, Kline, & French is a division of
SmithKline Beecham, the third largest pharmaceutical company in the world. This
position is in the Laboratory Automation Group, Worldwide Application
Development and involves developing new applications and tools in support of a
large pharmaceutical research and development effort.

Job Specification:
BS/BA with exposure to both computer and physical
sciences required. Masters degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of independent application programming
experience required. Experience in VAX/VMS programming environment, VAX
languages and VAX DBMS products (e.g. Ingres, Oracle, System 1032) preferred.
Knowledge of computer operations, communications, and programming skills in at
least one of the following languages: BASIC, FORTRAN, C.
Knowledge of relational database systems and data structures (B-tree, ISAM,
etc.) required.
Experience in the development of large scale projects using
structured analysis and design techniques. / Strong communication,
presentation, and interpersonal skills required.
Prefer candidates with experience in laboratory data collection,
laboratory process control and LIMS application development. General
knowledge of research information and industry standard analytical packages
(RS/1, SAS, MACCS) preferred.
Job Functions:
Participate in the analysis and design of applications for computer based data
collection and information management. These applications are for local as well
as international use.
Responsible for the implementation and documentation of applications. Acts
independently in these functions as related to small or local project
activities.
Aids scientists and other members of the laboratory environment in testing
applications to ensure correct functioning of applications.
Works with R&D staff in the validation of new software systems.
