hoo-boy. the way a certain ex-staff member would handle this is
that he would sneak into your office while your officemate wasn't
around and invite you to the party at his place. this avoided
the invitation of "sysdev" people (i.e., those who were perceived
to be unwashed and uncool) while inviting all the cool people.
(i'm not joking. this really used to happen. i just invite everyone
<i used to post invitations to the net, and all manner of folks would
turn up> and see what happens. now my apartment is slightly larger
than my office :) so i can't invite any more than two or three of my
closest friends <and then only if they bring the early morning servants
complete with tea and croissants for breakfast>)
