eichin (Mark W. Eichin):

Sigh. So many songs today are using "snippets" of older songs, often
of unrelated genres... basically using the tape-splicer as an instrument,
much less subtle than borrowing a theme.

"I beg your pardon", a song that is about as old as I am, and also a song
on the Top 40 this week, with the refrain snapped out of the old one.

Then there is some song which uses, as an occasional "note", Mr. Spock
(Leonard Nimoy) saying the words "Pure Energy." (more avid trekkies might
even be able to place the episode.)

The greatest atrocity, however, is the cuisinart version of at least
four songs, including "you were always on my mind" and a few others
that just don't fit. It freaked me out when I first heard it.
