Minutes of ExecComm (April 21, 1993)

*Administrative notes:

Start: 7:07 pm; End: 7:45 pm. Present:
Crystal, Jen'n, Sara, Bridget, Kate, Dave, Harry, Kevin, Yale, Ezra,
JP, Albert, George (from Mass State Science Fair)

*Officers' reports:

*SVP's report:

There were projects this term. There were strategically located
storms. Projects happened, people went. All of the new brothers had
a leadership position. Last weekend was Chapter Weekend. Tomorrow is
glass etching, in the alley between Rockwell and Johnson. You can
just show up and tell them you're from APO. I keep getting all this
stuff about things happening this Saturday, which is Pledge Term
Review Meeting. We're registering people for the Walk for Hunger on
May 2nd, 6:30 to 10:30. The Awards Convocation is May 5th. We have
to decide when AfterFinals is; place is TBA. (Various suggestions
including Maine (beyond the black flies) and Camp Edward (on an
island.)) You should all go.

*MVP's report:

I haven't logged in yet to read their term reports so I'm not sure
right now how many of the pledges are going to elevate. That's the
only thing bothering me right now.

*AVP's report:

The term was long and hairy. It had big teeth. I plan to take everything
in Systems off and keep it on floppy in the AVP's desk, and see if anyone
actually notices. (First I need to dig up a floppy and figure out how
to save to it.)

*Treasurer's report:

We have money. We have had money for most of the term. I produced
three monthly reports (January, February, and March.) The term sucked
academically.

*Fellowship Chair's report:

...Unmitigated disaster comes to mind. I think we've had problems
with what Fellowship Chairs expect of themselves, and of the chapter.
(My expectations of myself were too low, and of the chapter were too
high.)

*APOcEd's report:

I've had a good term, I think. I missed an issue because I was sick.
The deadline for the Elections Apoc is this Sunday evening.

I WANT CANDIDATE ARTICLES. [Yes, Harry was actually loud... ;)]
I have one so far.

*ASC's report:

I didn't realize until after I was elected that the ASC is in charge
of the Steak Fry auction. I let office tours for pledges slip through
the cracks, which I shouldn't have. CW2 was a slight improvement over CW1
in that it happened. It was a little too successful servicewise... we
finished everything there was to do on Sunday, so we just went home.
The s'mores were gone anyway...

*PubDir's report:

(written) No ideas for board? No brain cells left? Not one? Boo hoo.
I guess I'll go back to plain ol' APO.

*Historian's report:

(written) Nothing to report.

*Advisor's report:

Continuing steadily on course.

Dave: Joe said he has nothing to report.

*President's report:

I-banquet.. I would like someone to volunteer to cook a vegetarian dish
(not vegan, so it can have cheese in it.)

You've done an excellent job, notwithstanding the snow which has been
the outstanding feature of the term... (Crystal engages in
praise-heaping.) Today is Secretaries' Day. (Dave: Go bridget!)

You should run for something. Yes you should. (Jen'n: Not me!) And
you should write articles.

Feed the Schmuck ideas! (Dave's definition: The Schmuck collects
all the dirt, all the great quotes, sees what's going on, and gives
out suitable rewards at I-banquet.) To get a message to the Schmuck,
leave a note on the board labelled ``HEY SCHMUCK!''

*New Business: MSSF

George: A long time ago, the MSSF had lots of collaborations with APO
and ESP. APO ran the barbeque pits. I'm here to see if we can't get
this going again. I think it died due to a lack of communication.

Jen'n: You could say that. Three years ago there were two science fairs
and we did the wrong one.

George: We'd be talking getting the pits set up and running them on
Friday, April 30th, from 10-1. Students arrive Thursday evening, or
Friday morning if they're local. The judging begins Friday at 12, and
runs until about 5. Then they have a banquet. Saturday we entertain
the kids, give them tours. The awards ceremony is at 3, then
breakdown and they go home.

Sara: How many people would we be feeding, and how many would we need
to run this?

George: There'll be about 400 high school kids, with some parents and
teachers...

Kate: So about 500 people.

Sara: There is a How-To for this in the APO locker.

Dave: My God! We have relevant documentation. What's the world
coming to?

Jen'n wonders what if we find out we can't do it. George says then
the kids go find places to eat.

Yale: You need people handing out food /it and taking in money.

Kate: And we need to see if we can get the pits...

Albert: I'll co-PC it if we do it this year.

Jen'n: In general, do we want to revive this as a traditional project?
We stopped because of the mixup. (General consensus seems to be ``yes.'')
I'll call you by the end of the week about whether we can do it.

Yale: We need to focus on getting lots of people from 10 to noon.

George reminisces about when he was a high school student at the MSSF
and came out for a midafternoon snack, and APO brothers were still
out there cooking stuff.

Jen'n: Anyone interested, SEE ME after the meeting.

Yale: Who's our LSC contact? We used to sell popcorn there too.

Dave remarks that his persuasive influences over denizens of LSC are
probably equal to the task.

Yale: What's happening with the Ride Wall?

Jen'n: If you're interested, talk to me. Maybe people with early finals
can help. (People start saying things like ``after May x.'')

*Announcements
Jen'n: Glass etching tomorrow.

Crystal: Someone should volunteer to cook a vegetarian dish.

Crystal: Elections are next Wednesday! Come! If you're not all there
I'll be traumatized for life!

*PFTGOTO
Jen'n: Appropriate thank-yous.

Kevin: Thanks to all who helped with CWII.

Ann: (written) A cheer for all pledges and brothers for having made
it this far this term! :-) (in preparation for pledge term review.)

Sara: Praise-showering on the two pledges who came to ExecComm!
