The charity designated by the winner was CASA,
Court-Appointed Special Advocates. It is a
program to train people to help neglected or
abused children.

The check was presented today to a representative
from the "Friends of CASA" organization. Carl was
presented with his trophy (which, along with Opaque
Horizons, is being displayed on the 5th floor of
the Student Center) and all the contestants were
presented with award certificates as well as gift
certificates donated by Toscannini's, Bertucci's,
Chicago Pizza, and the Tech Barber Shop.

In addition, the first three runners up were given
momentos - Kretchmar received a cryptic word puzzle,
Norton received a "statue" entitled "Translucent Fish",
and Zbarsky received a milk bottle.

The UMOC committee would like to thank everyone who
participated in the contest by voting, campaigning,
and running. Also, many thanks to the APO members
who helped staff the booth all week, etc.

We would love to hear feedback about this year's
contest. Please send all comments to <ugly@mit.edu>.

Also, anybody who is interested in getting information
about next year's UMOC can add themselves to the
mailing list <umoc-interested@mit.edu> by typing
  blanche umoc-interested -a $USERNAME
at the Athena prompt. It won't have any traffic for
another year or so... =)

Thank you,
Emily Marcus
