Minutes of Chapter Meeting, Sept. 24, 1998

Present: Ann-Marie, Carolyn, Michael, Grant, Jake, Thor, Emily, Yale, Ira,
Cathy, Jill, Oscar, Chris, Katie, Brad
Beginning of meeting closes briefly for "check in."
Committee reports:

Book Ex (Jake): The Exchange has closed and we are distributing books
and checks to their owners. A tentative figure for gross income is $11,285.
Commendations go to Sara, for sitting eleven hours, and Ann-Marie, who
was drafted into the position of treasurer half an hour before opening.
To her we award the book "Uppity Women of Ancient Times."
Conclave (Ann-Marie): Conclave: "Mysteries of the Unknown," or
"Sexfest '98," is October 30th to November 1st, at UMass Amherst. If you
want to go, please sign up soon with me or in the office. The total
fee is $40, including $13 for hotel and $14 for banquet. The dealine
is September 29th.
A quick poll is conducted to detect interest in a local project during
Conclave weekend. Little to none is found. On the other hand, several
people are interested in the sectional service project with WPI on
November 14 (conflicting with the current schedule for PTRM).
Five proposals from Fincomm are made:
MSP (10-0): That $200 be allocated for "Service Publicity" and added
to the current allocation.
MSP (10-0): To create a new allocation of $50 for "Chapter Publicity,"
and that it be added to the current allocation."
MSP (9-0): To allocate $125 and to add it to the current appropriation
for "Fellowship."
MSP (9-0): To allocate $100 and to add it to the current appropriation
for "Executive Discretionary."
MSP (10-0): To earmark $500 from the Charitable Fund for the UMOC Committee
to give to the UMOC winning charity.
The Treasurer introduces an item from Execcomm. The chapter last term
approved spending on a computer, a `kerchunk' machine, a ritual box
renovation, a soda machine, and a stereo. Execcomm recommends a refrigerator.
MSP (10-0): That the words "soda machine" be stricken from the terms
of appropriation, and replaced with "refrigerator."
A flame from the office of the Treasurer:
Only the following brothers are officially active this term. (List of
about nine read) Dues and pledge fees for this term are both $20. You must
also resolve financial obligations to the chapter to be active.
Ann-Marie:
The National convention is at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis, Minnesota
on December 27 - 30. If you don't want to stay at the hotel, you may wish ask
Carolyn nicely. She has mattresses and floor space. If you have an interest
in going or in being a delegate, please sign up in the office. Fees are $35
for registration, $16 for the banquet, and $52 per night for a four-person
room. We will register on November 2, so sign up now. We will choose
delegates in the next or following chapter meetings.
The meeting is temporarily closed to permit discussion of a proposal
that the chapter recommend a motion to revise the pledge ritual.
MSP (7-0-3): That the chapter recommend Oscar's proposal and rationale if,
by Friday, he has received approval for them from seven active brothers.
The chapter names the animals introduced two weeks prior. They are now:
Speed Bump the Armadillo, Duck the Platypus the Duck, I am the Walrus,
Dead the Warthog, Lily the Moose, Baseball the Bat, Me After My Thesis
the Crab, Lizzie! the Cow, Dead the Rhino, and Dow Jones the Bear.

SVP (Cathy): Several projects are upcoming. The Walk for CCFA is highly
recommended.
FC (Brad): This weekend may be the Bertucci's (gift certificate) dinner trip,
followed by the Movie Night run by Thor. Or they may be rescheduled.
PubDir (Katie): Let Katie know if you notice any publicity supplies running out.
Historian (Sara): The composite will be made this term. More film is on the way.
APOcEd (Emily): We have an issue. The next one will be made two weeks from last
Friday [October 2], with a submission deadline of September 30.
ASC (Ari): (Channeled:) The office is a mess. Clean up your stuff.
AVP (Michael): Contact information for brothers has been updated, using
finger information. Please inform me of all appropriate corrections.
President (Ann-Marie): Wants to put up the last shelves tomorrow night. Show up
and hold things. We have Nationals.
Announcements:

The CCFA project is a very worthy cause. Report to the office
Saturday at 7:30 am.
There is a Chuck E. Cheese party for Harry on Monday September 28.
Tell Cathy immediately if you want to go.
Ann-Marie has one remaining ticket for the Red Sox game on Friday.

Cathy has never seen a sadder-looking armadillo in her life.
Brad has some 8-conductor cable with a serial end.
Cathy wants suggestions for things to put in rice-krispie treats for meetings.
The only item yet suggested is chipped ham, so unless you're fond of that,
think of something else.
Everyone can come hang out at Theta Xi and eat coffee or drink coffee or
play cards or Trivial Pursuit at 9 pm. [Wednesday nights]
