Hullo,
Sorry to fill inboxes of uninterested parties, but I thought I
would try to canvass Boston area alums who will be around this
summer. Many students in Cambridge move or leave during the summer
months, and I think that a truly disgusting amount of good things get
thrown out, so I'm trying to organize salvage forays and also find
homes for this stuff. "This stuff" includes electronics, chairs,
tables, scrap wood (or things that can become scrap wood). Please let
me know if you are interested in receiving more of these notices,
otherwise I will send these only to apo-pftgoto in the future.
please email me if you want more of the
So I've been cherry picking some trash around the
neighborhood, and altho much of it I am saving for me, here are the
things I would like to find other homes for:
--water heater and dispenser. Made in Japan, warms about two quarts
(liters) water, dispenses with a simple hand-pump action. Says it
takes 120V but has the standard plug for 220; adaptors are cheap at
Economy or Tags.
--a couple rickety wooden chairs: as is usual for cheap furniture, the
wood is just fine but the separate pieces of wood need to be fastened
together better (either new screws, more screws, or glue with small
wood block bracing) and the cushions are shot. With a sewing machine,
I could see reupholstering in a couple hours, and refastening would
also take a few.
--microwave oven. I dunno if it works (currently is sitting in
Jamie's garage), but it might; I'll check later today.
--Large-ish of stereo speaker. I've no idea if it works, I'll find
something to attach it to.
--What used to be a very small table: it is a plain dark brown
finished wood box that used to have a ceramic top. I figured the top
was removable, so I tried removing it. After a decent number of
attempts, it came off and shattered when I tried to load it into the
elevator. BUT: if you want to find a chunk of glass the right size,
or a piece of wood; personally, I'd give it a piece of wood with
proper hinges and turn it into a small chest. It's about 2x2x1.5
feet; 18" is the height.
--Potentially a fragment or two of formica coated countertop. These
will come from the chunks of countertop in a large L shape that I will
not be using; Jamie needs a new countertop, but the whole thing is too
large for her kitchen.
That's all for now!
Take care, in LFS,
Brad L.
