Subject: "Things Disappearing"
Things are quickly getting out of hand. <fact>
UHauls? Mercenary Raids until you get something "good"? Shenanigans to
get stuff back that get people sick? Ceasing to inform people of chapter
events because there "loyalty" is suspect? Stealing from elderly women?
(all of these are facts)
We're not stealing things in plain sight anymore, we're going into
locked offices sometimes by stealing keys, other times by climbing in
windows in the night.
The point of this originally was fellowship NOT war... you know like the
point was for people to like get to know each other and become friendlier?
Not come to fear other chapters visiting... and have to put guard and locks
on things that they don't want to disappear.
The attitude in 94 AND 96 will clean up in the next 24 hours as I am
ending things disappearing before:
a) someone gets hurt
b) someone gets arrested
c) someone creates a lot of hurt feelings and bad blood
Yes this means that all the disappeared things will be returned. (There
is no choice here) AND new things will NOT be disappearing. Yes, I'm ruining
some fun, and it's no fun for me to be a spoil sport.
It's also no longer fun for me either to hear the complaints and have to
deal with arrange the resolutions. Let me give you one example out of many
of how I things are getting out of hand and why I can no longer turn a
blind eye to things:
On checking off of the State of Maine on Conclave Weekend I had more
baggage than I could carry. So with the Chapter's permission I left some in
my cabin to come back and get. The baggage that was left behind was rifled
through, and things were stolen form inside my bags. Have I gotten a ransom?
nope... Guess I'm just supposed to do with out until someone gets around to
returning things.
Someone was watching me (stalking is another good word here) waiting
until my back was turned, went into a closed cabin, and rifled through
packed things searching for something. In the real world I would have called
the Hancock County Sheriff and reported a B&E.
So let's do an attitude check here, and remember that we are a
BROTHERHOOD. Let's further take a look at what our brotherhood is
grounded on, the 12 points of the scout oath, one of which is TRUST.
Also I'll throw one final thought out to you all to give you an
underpinning as to why I am acting. If someone doesn't want to play,
doesn't know the rules ahead of time, and has no opportunity to readily get
there stuff back then;
Humiliation could be a form of hazing.
Fear could be a form of hazing.
Forcing people to do without necessities could also be a form of hazing.
and I think we are getting to that point where could be changes to "is"
