There will be a service project at the Arlington Food Pantry from 2pm
until 5pm on Saturday May 16th. We will be sorting donations from the
Post Office Food Drive the week before. Our sponsor reports that they
are completely swamped every year, and need a lot of manpower for this
project. I'd really like to see a good turnout. The Arlington Food
Pantry is right in a lot of our back yards, and they're there to help
our friends and neighbors in hard times. Please call me
(781-322-9891) to RSVP so that I know about how many people to expect.

The work is suitable for adults, people who'd rather not admit they're
adults yet, and moderately small children. The area should be
reasonably safe for small fry; the adjacent room is used as a church
nursery. Formal babysitting will not be provided, due to the SVP's
inherent lack of organization.

For your information, I-Banquet will be held the evening of May 16th.
Should I warn them to stock plenty of agar culture to feed fungi
staggering in from project? I don't have details yet. Please call
the AXcoAPO office for I-banquet information and RSVP's.

The SVP is really hosed. I desperately need help with publicity.
Call me or send e-mail if you'd like to help. My thanks to the
actives who have already volunteered to help; please call me and let
me know what your schedules are like.

Directions:

The Arlington Food Pantry is located in the basement of the Church of
Our Saviour at 21 Marathon St. Complete directions with a map can be
found on the church's web page at http://world.std.com/~saviour. A
shorter version can be found below:

By car from campus:

Take Memorial Drive west to Alewife. At Alewife, stay to the right
and continue straight onto Route 16 east. The next light is
Massachusetts Avenue; turn left.

You will pass some shops, and a large Baptist church on your right.
Begin looking for Marathon St. on your right; you'll see a street sign
and a square sign that says "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You". If
you pass Lake St. and the Capitol Theater on your left, you've gone
one block too far.

Turn right on Marathon St, and go one block. Park on Marathon Street,
not on the cross street by the church, which is privately owned.
Church of Our Saviour is a small, inconspicious stone church on the
right hand side of the street; the address is 21 Marathon Street.

By MBTA from MIT:

Take the #1 bus to Harvard Square. Take the #77 bus from Harvard to
Arlington. When the bus crosses Route 16 and the small bridge over
Alewife brook, begin following the driving directions at the second
paragraph.

I'm fairly sure, although not certain, that the 77 bus is one of the
ones that leaves from inside Harvard station instead of picking up at
the surface level. Would someone please post a correction if I'm
wrong?

See you there.

YiLFS,
Darlene
