Minutes_of_ExecComm,_March_3,_1998______________________
Administrative notes:
Start: 7:03pm; End: 8:13pm Present: Lizzie, Oscar, Cathy, Paul, pipa, Susama,
Laura, Brian, Jeffreypu,
Ann-Marie, Lan, Emily, Melissa, Grant, Michael, Katie, Jake.
Officers' reports:
SVP (Melissa):
MVP (Grant): Pledge ceremony tomorrow at 7:30 in building 5.
AVP (Laura): There's no way I can get tonight's minutes out in 24 hours. Also,
I need someone to take minutes at next week's chapter meeting, as I will be
either in a 6.003 exam or at Concert Choir rehearsal.
Treasurer (Lizzie): The only active brothers are those who have already paid
dues. Pay yer debts.
FC (Ari): not present
APOcEd (pipa): We have a new APOc. Note the lovely centerfold. I'm trying for
another one next week; the deadline is Monday. Write stuff. Gimme art.
Note the new name.
ASC (Brian): Keep the office clean.
PubDir (Emily): nothing to report
Historian (Ann-Marie): ArcComm met. New ideas, cool stuff. We found inlaid wood
scrapbooks. Need to work on restorations and cleaning. Come to the next
ArcComm; we'll start working on storage. ArcComm is not the eleventh; it will
be rescheduled within 2 to 3 days. Tell me when you can't come.
Mail will be sent.
I will be taking pictures of officers. Beware.
[someone suggests a new camera] I'll consider buying a new camera; most of
the budget will go toward storage of current items.
Advisory Comm. Chair (Joe): not present
President (Oscar): I have info about sectional workshops and National awards.
MMA signup was due yesterday.
Committee reports:
Carnival (Susama): No luck. No money. No carnival this term. Maybe next term?
Old Business:
Carnival:
Cathy: Would we have more time to plan for a Spring 1999 Carnival? (or even
Fall 1999)
Jeffrey: Be careful, though, not to plan too far ahead and get sick of it.
Oscar: But anyway, since there's no money for this term, let's kill it.
pipa: Lizzie will keep carnival-conclave bank stuff.
[carnival dies unanimously]
Fall 1998 exploratory committee will form.
New Business:
Computer System:
Oscar: This would be $863 plus the cost of a net drop.
pipa: Is anything allocated for software?
Oscar: This would be a dual boot NT Server/RedHat machine.
pipa: I would be uncomfortable with unregistered NT.
Michael: How much is currently in the safe?
Lizzie: About $1200.
Michael: Ok, so that's more than the computer.
pipa: Perhaps we should budget for an anchor pad as well.
Ann-Marie: But then we can't move the machine.
pipa: Move to add anchor pad to quote. [seconded by susama]
[discussion of insurance, anchor pads, and security]
Emily: What do we need this computer for?
Oscar: Windows so we can use financial software. Also, a web server
would be a good thing.
Cathy: How much less would it be if we use the old monitor?
Oscar: $189.
Brian: What alternative sorts of security are there?
pipa: We can padlock it to a leg of a desk.
Oscar: Really, there are enough tools and such in the office to defeat any
system.
Ann-Marie: The anchor pad is only a deterrent; get a lock for the hard drive.
Oscar: There is not much history of theft from the office.
Ann-Marie: We should buy 3-4 minutes in spite of potential inconvenience to us.
Susama: Amend to suggest cabling holding down the machine.
pipa: That's unfriendly; it's a significant reduction in deterrance. [withdrawn]
Brian: Move the question. [no objections] [motion fails 4-4-1]
Ann-Marie: Move to add removable backup method. [melissa seconds]
Brian: Who will be responsible for backup?
Ann-Marie: This would be to cost no more than $200.
[motion fails due to abstinence]
Melissa: Move to use the old monitor. [seconded by ann-marie]
pipa: We have the money, and a new one would be under warranty.
Cathy: The old one appeared to work.
[motion fails]
Move to call the question on the $863 plus shipping plus net drop.
pipa: I get I-told-you-so rights if it disappears.
[passes 5-1-1]
Coke Machine:
Melissa: Can we postpone the motion until we try more to salvage the old
machine?
Oscar: The cost of a new machine would be $15xx.99 with shipping.
pipa: Can we table the motion?
Oscar: No, we can't table it, because the chapter authorized the expenditure
for now. Joe says the Coke machine has been under repair forever.
pipa: Does this include removal of the old machine? Reuse won't necessarily
make it go away.
Michael: $700 for a refrigerator might be better.
pipa: Move the question.
Ann-Marie: Objection. The Coke machine may live again, but a new one won't
last as long as the old one, which we can repair.
Oscar: Parts for the old machine are no longer being made, so this becomes more
and more difficult.
[motion fails 3-4-2]
Announcements:
Cathy: Conflict Resolution and Pizza.
Grant: Pldege ceremony tomorrow around 5-2xx.
Melissa: LLBean and Moxy Fruvous study break before CWI.
PFTGOTO:
pipa: Kelev is up to date on his shots.
Cathy: I think I may not be graduating this term. I got paid, though. I also
got new furniture, but I don't have a place to put it.
Jake: Home for a robot?
