Minutes_of_Chapter_Meeting,_February_24,_1998_________________________
Administrative notes:
Start: 7:10 pm; End: 8:20 pm Present: Oscar, Laura, Emily, Lizzie!, Cathy,u
Melissa, Brian, Grant, Carolyn,
Susama, Ann-Marie, that Thor guy, Phil, Yale
Officers' reports:
SVP (Melissa): We have these 3 cool things coming up. First is constructive
destruction, tearing down walls so more can be built. Meet Saturday by 8:45am
in the office. It'll be cool.
Then there's Chapter Weekend I, with Michael as PC, at a Girl Scout Camp, March
6-8. Then the next weekend is Conflict Resolution and Pizza. Good Fun.
MVP (Grant): We have 2 pledges and may get a 3rd. Stay tuned.
AVP (Laura): If I don't get minutes out within 24 hours after the meeting, nag
me mercilessly.
Treasurer (Lizzie): You must have paid dues by this meeting to be active this
term. So get me money. Oh, and pay yer debts.
FC (Ari): not present
APOcEd (pipa): not present
ASC (Brian): The office was cleaned and is still clean. More cleaning will
occur when books go away.
PubDir (Emily): There's stuff on the bulletin board in the Infinite Corridor.
It's based on the WUAPO.
Tell me about other stuff. LATEX and PostScript help would be great.
Historian (Ann-Marie): ArcComm tomorrow in the office. We'll talk about storing
stuff, and look at pictures, and have a short meeting.
Advisory Comm. Chair (Joe): No report.
President (Oscar): Comittees are working. Get involved with them.
Committee reports:
Book Exchange (Jeffrey): According to Ingrid, we received $9271, of which our
checks and books are being distributed in the office, so sign up for hours.
[gack, dvi2tty garbled that...]
Carnival (Susama): Unless there's a miracle (we get funding) within the next 3
days, we're not having Carnival this Spring. I'm mentioning now the idea of
having something like Carnival in the Fall, so don't be
surprised if I propose it. [ok, the avp is paraphrasing here.]
ScrewComm (Jake): I've never done this before. This committee needs more
members to advise me.
[ScrewComm gains the chairs it needs.]
New Business:
Pledge Class Namesake:
[meeting closes, meeting opens, and all that]
FinComm recommendations:
Move to authorize ExecComm to make the following capital expenditures:
- Computer System and Net Drop Installation
- 4-color, 1-station Textile printer
- Stereo System
- Cold Beverage Vending machine
- Renovation of ritual box.
We have money.
Carolyn: Friendly amend to limit spending to $4000. [accepted]
Susama: I'm not really sure I agree with spending money for some of these
things. [Laura and Emily agree; the stereo is mentioned.]
Emily: Well ExecComm can choose not to buy these things.
[The silkscreen machine is mentioned as something in that category.]
Oscar: This motion is a block; specific amendments violate the motion,
which is FinComm's recommendation.
[vote; motion passes 11-3]
Move to strike standing policies on Active Membership Dues and Pledge Fees and
add a standing policy on "Dues Structure." This lowers initiation fees which
are way too high. It would take effect after PTRM.
[little discussion; motion passes unanimously by voice vote]
Announcements:
Melissa: Come to project on Saturday.
Ann-Marie: ArcComm tomorrow in the office.
Emily: Bring me suggestions for publicity. Also, let's discuss that sort of
thing Friday in the office at dinnertime.
Jeffrey: Sign up for Book Exchange pick up hours.
Brian: Officers and Chairs should clean desks and boxes.
Paul: Help the fencing team set up for a huge meet, Friday at 4:00 pm.
Ari: If you know brothers who should be active, give me their names.
Melissa: March 6-8, Chapter Weekend I. Friday night should be some sort of
Moxy Fruvous and LL Bean study break.
[I asked her to repeat it, so I guess it makes sense.]
PFTGOTO:
Susama: <whine> I have a job.
Lizzie: My head, it's really neat, it's gonna go "pfffpht" and explode.
Phil: Today I learned the probability that you'll die if someone shoots at you
with a nuclear weapon.
Melissa: Split pea soup at my house.
Brian: Why nukes? [something about bombs]
Jill: I missed the meeting since I was trying to get a job.
