Subject: math tourney - a request and proctor guidelines

An urgent request: please bring watches, digital if possible, as you
will each have your own team you will be responsible for timing in the
power and team exams.

Those of you who are proctoring will receive a more detailed set of
guidelines, but here are the highlights for your perusal:

* Runners will tell you when to start exams, but you are responsible
for accurate timing. All exams are 50 minutes long; write on the
board how much time has passed at the 20 and 40 minute marks, and
announce when 5 and 1 minutes are remaining.

* Students will receive rules as to what form answers can appear in.
This is the only help they will receive with answers; you should not
interpret questions for students, or tell them whether their answers
are in correct form. If students are insistant, there should be a
runner stationed near your room available to relay any questions to
the grading room.

* The only aides students are permitted are pencil/pen and the blank
paper we provide - no straight-edges, graph paper, calculators,
sources, etc. You should walk around the room periodically to make
sure this rule is enforced.

* In power and team exams, students are encouraged to move about the
room. In individual exams, students must raise their hands if they
need you to get more scratch paper or pencils for them, or if they
have questions.

Thanks,
Anne
