Okay... so I talked to the Boston Athletic Association, and they said
they could use a group of people either at the Athlete's Village,
working a water station, or maybe doing security at the start. (I
avoided things that people needed certifications such as CPR and first
aid for, because a lot of us don't have those certifications.)

So, now I need a group of people to do one of these things. That's
where all of you come in. :)

In the office, you will find many copies of the application to work at
the Boston Marathon. They are under the bulletin board, in the white
shelves, in the highest leftmost one. If you want to work, *and you
want to commit to working*, take one of these and fill it out. Put it
on the message board for me... (Leave the stuff about what you want to
do blank; I will try to get us together as a group doing whatever they
need us to. If you want to do something else, and you still want to
sign up through APO, talk to me.) If you have any questions, problems,
whatever, get in touch with me.

I need applications back by Wednesday, December 17. I want to send
this out before Christmas break. If I do not have an application from
you by then and have not heard otherwise, I will assume you are not
working. (The BAA needs forms from everyone; we can't just sneak in a
few more people.) If I do have an application form from you, this is a
commitment that you will attend.

The marathon itself is Monday, April 20, 1998. We will be helping out
doing one of the above things; it will likely be a most-of-the-day
affair, and may involve waking up quite early, depending on what we
are assigned to. (In that case, it will not take most of the day, but
everyone will be too tired to do anything else interesting. :) ) If
you are interested in helping out beforehand, tell me (I know one
person already has); maybe we'll get together a group to do that
too. We can do both. :)

A few of us (okay, 6) did this last year; I personally found it a
really cool project. It'll be fun. You want to go. You want to have
fun. You want the spiffy jacket they give volunteers. You want to know
that you helped out with a really cool event. You want to see a really
cool event from an entirely new perspective. Yeah.

Thanks, Cathy
