Start: 7:04 pm; End: 8:06pm
Present: Brian S., Carolyn J., Grant, Laura, Ingrid, Cathy, Brian
P., David, Susama, Melissa, Lizzie, Glen, Yale, Jake, Jeff, Lan,
Michael, Jill, Ari, Ira, Darlene

Officers' reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SVP (Susama): I need PC's. Talk to me soon before I start harassing people.
Chapter Skills Weekend has been moved to Sep. 27! If you can and want
to teach a chapter skill, talk to me or Jeff.
MVP (Jeffrey): We have nine pledges. (Two of them are here now!) There
will be another pledge ceremony tomorrow; the time depends on what is
convenient for our prospectives. Also, Brad will probably become a
pledge this weekend at CW1.
There won't be a MemComm this week, but there will probably be one
next week, before Chapter Skills Weekend.
If you want to be a big brother, e-mail me.
AVP (Melissa): Update your address and/or phone number on our address list.
And if you need any rooms reserved for events during term, tell me.
Treasurer (Matt): (by way of Melissa) Pay your debts! Pay your dues!
If you want to vote, give $17 to Lizzie BEFORE THE MEETING or whenever
it is most convenient.
FC (Brian P.): Fun stuff is happening. Friday night/Saturday night
dinner trips will start up the weekend after CW1. If you're interested
in PCing one, get to me. Otherwise we can just have eight dinner trips
to Lobdell!
Big brother/Little brother study break is coming soon.
And there's a pledge article meal on Monday.
APOcEd (David): Write articles. Are you a pledge? Write an article to
tell us about yourself. Do you want to be a big? Write an
article. Have you PC'd a project lately? There should be an APOC by
next Thursday or Friday.
ASC (Cathy): QUIT RANDOMLY CLEANING THE OFFICE. Stop recycling
people's homework, readings, etc.
PubDir (Pipa): Not present.
Historian (Carolyn J.): Three rolls of film disappeared from the
drawer last weekend. If you know what happened, please talk to me or to Lizzie.
President (Lizzie): Section 89 Sectionals are happening in Syracuse,
NY on Oct. 25, 26. It costs $40 for registration, banquet, t-shirt,
and glassware. If you're interested in going, talk to me.
Congratulations to the new junior officers. They were sworn in at our
last meeting.
Congratulations to our new (sic) brothers. (As Lizzie passes out
snazzy certificates and membership cards to brothers who pledged in
Fall 1996)
Ari:  Wow. Nationals just got my paperwork.
President (Lizzie): If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free
to put them anonymously in the comment/suggestion box in the
office. If you have chocolate chip cookies, please DO NOT put them
in the comment/suggestion box in the office.
Committee reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Silkscreen Chair (Cathy): Class is coming up. If you want to help, tell me
what times/dates would be good for you.

Coke Chair (Melissa): Something is dreadfully wrong with the Coke
machine. It automatically assumes that if you put money in the slot,
you want decaffeinated soda. This is terrible. If you have a
voltmeter and know how to use it to debug the machine, talk to me.

Book Exchange(Kevin, channeled by Laura):

Book Exchange happened. Yay, Laura and all the sub-PCs. The total take
was $13,736, so our share of that would be $686.80. Yay, us.

I am told that a seller who was unable to locate one of her books
after the Exchange asked about the policy on lost and missing books,
and that a brother told her that she would be reimbursed.

Unless we make a change, the official policy is that APO is not
responsible for lost, missing, or unsold books, and that is on the
form that all sellers sign. The best thing to do in that situation
would probably be to tell the seller that most missing books turn up
later or are discovered sold when the treasurer goes through the
records and unidentified books.

It is true that sometime the PC makes a decision to reimburse people
for lost books, but that decision should be left to the PC and other
brother should never make promises that might not be kept. I would
also like to point out that, given the current security measures at
Book Exchange, it would be really easy for someone to put books which
do not exist on their forms and then demand a reimbursement when these
books turn out to be "missing" after the exchange.

So, even if we decide to reimbruse people, it is prudent not to
broadcast the fact.

Conclave(Cathy): Meetings on on Mondays at 8:30 pm in the office.

Oct. 15 is the deadline to register. It will cost $17 for the banquet,
$18 registration, and $9 for shirts. NO DEBT LISTING CONCLAVE!

MemComm(Jeff): Chapter Skills Weekend is coming up. At the next
meeting, we'll be discussing a possi ble amendment to the bylaws,
about a minimum number of projects to be attended by a certain date.

President (Lizzie): If you want to vote in the business part of the
meeting, pay your dues now.

Old Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
President (Lizzie): We need to approve our
current advisory committee.  As it stands, they are: Joe Kuchta, Larry
Anderson, Dottie Bowe, Jim Chesna, Amanda Chesna, Dean Andy Eisenmann,
Robert Rose, David Staelin, and Yale Zussman. (approved 12 for, 1 against)
Jill: I think we need more interaction between the chapter and our advisors.
New Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Conclave needs money. I move to approve a $500 loan to the Conclave
account to be paid back immediately after Conclave.
(approved: 11 for, 0 against, 0 abstain)

Announcements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cathy: Only one person has given me a convenient time to silkscreen.
If no one else does, it will be the  official time.
Jill: Sign up for chapter weekend.  The transport schedule is being
made right now.  And there will be cheesecake.
David: apocrypha@mit.edu
Laura: Book exchange books and checks go out on Monday the 22nd. Sign
up for office hours.
PFTGOTO:
~~~~~~~
Ingrid: IFC meetings. ACK!

Cathy: Ignobel Prizes are coming up. Do we want to send an official
delegation? Talk to me ASAP! It costs $8, and we need to fill out
paperwork now, but it is really fun. Oct. 9 at the Sanders Theatre in
Harvard.

Grant: If you ever need to steal something from LaVerde's, put it in
my backpack. The sensors always go off when I walk through anyway.

Susama: I just proved that cos(a+b) is not what I thought it had been
all these years.

Jake:  6.004 sucks. 6.034 rocks.

Laura: Cute people are...uhh...

David: 6.001 is boring.

Michael: Junior lab kicks MCA.
