hey read the bulletin,
i was the one who came in later and noticed two pairs of shoes
under the stall. had thought some people making out since
the two didn't make any noise, so i had banged on this metal thing
loudly (to signal disgust) and then proceeded to leave - luckily this
was when the girl screamed "help! call the police" and i ran out and
called the CPs...
Luckily she wasn't raped or hurt. don't know what else should've done...
should've tripped the guy? or maybe snag some guys from the gameroom
to stand around the door to the women's bathroom?
scary thing is it took at least 2 min before the
CPs came - don't know what I should've done if the guy had stayed in there
(from where i was calling near the gameroom, could see him leave
about half a minute after i ran out). any suggestions?
it could've happened to anybody, so please be careful!
(can't believe it happened in the student center - esp. since
there are always people playing video games or going to the restrooms there).
i always thought it was so silly for girls to go to the bathroom in
packs - like during dinner or dances when they go to gossip about guys
or whatever - but now, it seems like a pretty smart thing to do...

CRIME ALERT BULLETIN
MIT CAMPUS POLICE DEPARTMENT
Issue Date: June 3, 1997
On Monday, June 2, 1997, at approximately 9:30 p.m. a student was
the victim of an armed robbery which occurred in the women's rest room in
the basement of the Stratton Student Center.
The victim reported that she was in the women's room stall and
observed a person in the stall next to her. Upon preparing to exit the
stall she was approached by the suspect who demanded money. The suspect
placed a blunt object in her back and grabbed her jewelry and $18 cash. The
victim screamed and the suspect fled the women's room and exited towards
the rear of the Student Center.
The victim describes the suspects as follows: black male, 5'6",
medium build, approximately 25-35 years of age, last seen wearing a green
sweatshirt with a light colortrim, blue jeans and black shoes.
The MIT Police searched the area with negative results. Anyone with
information is asked to contact the MIT Campus Police Detectives at
258-9723 or anonymous tips at <http://web.mit.edu/cp/www/>.
The MIT Campus Police Crime Prevention Unit suggests the following
safety precautions:
* When using rest rooms in low traffic areas or late at night, try to
bring a companion along with you.
* If you are the victim of a crime or see suspicious activity on campus,
contact the MIT Campus Police immediately.
* Become familiar with the locations of emergency telephones. They are
easily identifiable by their blue light, or dial "100" from any campus
telephone.
