Subject: Exciting spring break opportunities
Date: Tue, 11 Feb 1997 00:09:16 EST
Hello Community service chairs and student leaders, my name is Steve Yoo and
I'm trying to publicize the spring break trip that we will be going on.
Please read the following information and pass it on to your organizations.
The trip will be a blast and it will be even more fun if we can get lots of
people to go. Come to the meeting and find out. Email me if you have any questions
Thanks,
Steve

Subject: IMPORTANT SPRING BREAK MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY!!
Hello,
Here's the news you've all been waiting for....the first general meeting
for this year's Community Service Spring Break Trips will be
Wednesday the 12th at 6:30 in room 1-390
If you are interested in going on one of the 4 trips is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
that you come to this meeting. We will be describing what each of the
trips is about, the planning that still needs to be done, the logistics of
how each trip will work, and most importantly HOW YOU CAN SIGN UP AND GET
INVOLVED! At the meeting, we would like to get a pretty strong committment
for which trip each person would like to go on so here's some information
that will help you decide.
Trips 1-3) TEACH FOR AMERICA
Similar to last year's trip to D.C., we will have 3 different groups
going to 3 different cities to teach math and science lessons to elementary
and middle school students along side of Teach for America teachers in
public schools. Each MIT student will partner up with another MIT student
and "team teach" a few classes each day. We will help you prepare for your
teaching if you have no experience. The 3 TFA trips are going to...
1) Baltimore
2) Bronx, NY
3) Newark, NJ
We received assurance from Teach for America that all of the schools we
will be teaching at in these cities will be in safe areas. We are trying
to find free hosuing through MIT alumns and we transportation will be free.
Trip 4) HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
This will be the first year we partner with Habitat to work on building
affordable housing for a week. We will be going to Sallsbury, Maryland - a
rural area about 1 hour from Baltimore. There are only 10 spots available
for this trip but if you are interested you can get on the waiting list in
case someone else can't go.
So please bring any questions or ideas to the meeting on Wednesday (AND
BRING YOUR FRIENDS!) and if you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT make it please email
Anthony Ives <ajives@mit.edu> for more info.
Thanks,
Anthony
