SVP (Alexis): Project on Thursday and Saturday
Cathy: We have a project on Thursday. We are going to do the happy
book project with BU. We will color things that make us happy
and give them to children.
Lauren: Project on Saturday. We only have slots for 8 people though.
If you are already signed up and you wouldnt mind giving up your spot
let me know.
Gina: Chapter weekend II was a good project. We got lots done and
had a cool felloship event too.
Alexis: I will be bugging people for project reports. There are a
bunch of projects for helping feed hungry people going on during
Thanksgiving, if you will be here and can help out. Afterfinals
will be happening.
MVP (Ari): Had a pledge meeting on Monday and the follow up meet-
ing is on Sunday. Had a mock chpater meeting and it went very
well. Haven't met with all the pledges yet for pledge meeting
IV.
AVP (Jeffrey): Nothing to Reprt
Treasurer (John): Report will be included as part of Finncomm
Report.
FC (Ingrid): We had SFF. There were lots of people from BU there.
There is a lost CD if you forgot one of yours. There is a dinner
in the office/movie thing on Friday. There are people from BU
coming to this event. Jill's B day party is Friday at Next House
at 10:30. Next week will be the bubble wrap study break and I
am still looking for a PC. And I Banquet is coming up.
APOcEd (Hannah): There is an apoc. Read it and then write arti-
cles.
ASC (Lizzie): Nothing to Report
PubDir (Carolyn): The IC Board Exists
Historian (Charley): There is film in the camera and in my desk.
I need to ask the chapter for more money. The pictures in
the scrapbooks are labelled. All minutes and apocs so far are
archived. I am also looking for more of Archive Comm.
Advisory Comm. Chair (Joe): Nothing to Report
President (Emily): Elections are today. BU had fun at SFF. They
may invite us to their I Banquet.
Committee reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FinnComm (John): Hi, everyone, I'm going to be late to the elections
meeting tonight (I'll be there about 8:30). Assuming we get through
committee reports before then, here's my report to all of you on what
happened at Finance Committee last week: Purpose of the meeting was
to decide what to do with $4000 in chapter money that was "liberated"
from our MIT student activities account (ostensibly to pay for 60th).
Result of the discussion: we decided to look at putting some amount of
money into short-term CD's, with the amount dependent upon: (1) how
much of this money we wanted to reserve for use this "large projects"
(ie Carnival), and (2) whether MIT would allow us to keep our money
in outside investments.
Since the FinComm meeting, both of these questions have now been
answered to some extent. First, we did decide to do Carnival, so we will
want to keep some of the $4000 in its current NOW account; I'd like the
Carnival committee to come up with an estimate of how much money
they think needs to be kept in that account to cover operating expenses
(my guess is about $2000). The remainder can be put into short-term
CD's; I just heard back from Residence and Campus Activities, and
they said we can put our money into CD's. We register for CD's the
same way we register for outside bank accounts. (As an aside, we can't
put our money into another kind of investment like mutual funds or
bond funds.) So, given these results, I will be looking at CD's over the
next week.
That wraps up the FinComm report; I'll be happy to answer questions
about this after about 8:30 or so. ;-)
Next point: after carefully considering all the ramifications of running
for office (in particular, AVP), I've decided that I don't want to run for
anything for next semester. The reason is that I'd like to do something
for APO that I haven't had a chance to do since my pledge term 4 years
ago: be an _Active_Brother_ who actually goes on projects regularly.
And, given what I think my schedule will be next semester, I just don't
think I'll have the time to both be an officer and go to a decent number
of projects. This concludes my statement of non-candidacy. X-)
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
YiLF$, John Hollywood
Carnival (Oscar): We got a budget approved. Carnival has a home-
page. The URL is http://web.mit.edu/orod/www/Carnival/ Comments
would be appreciated. 4 groups have emailed us that they want to do
stuff. BU is having a big event the weekend of Carnival, so we may not
be able to have their help.
Archive Committee (Charley): I now have two members and will
be scheduling a meeting soon.
Yale: Leadership Seminar is on Saturday from 11 am to 1 in 4-153.
Historian (Charley): I ran out of archiving corners and we need
other stuff as well, so I would like to get $100 to cover the costs
of the historian for the rest of the term. Move to allocate $100
for the historian to cover costs for the rest of the term.
Yes: 12 No: 0 Abstain: 0
I-Banquet (Charley): We are thinking of moving I Banquet to Friday
as the alumni would have trouble attending the ceremony. We have
chosen Friday as it will cause the minimal number of conflicts. The
only major conflict may be with LSC's showing of ID4 if people really
wanted to go see it. We may have enough LSC clout to pull off a private
showing if people really think its a problem. Charley is the one who
came up with this idea.
