Lizzie's Candidate Article
(or why I'm the man for the job)

Hi, folks! This will serve as my candidate article for both Treasurer
and SVP because I've been hosed and lame and would say many of the same things
in both. So. Let's begin at the beginning..

Reasons I would be a good officer:

1. I am dedicated. Once I get a job, no matter what the cost, I will see it
through to the best of my ability. Hosage, while certainly a factor in whether
or not I get sleep or see my boyfriend (much to his dismay), is certainly not
a factor in whether or not I see my responsibility through to the end stage.
Anything that involves the needs of others will get done to the best of my
ability. As Summer Pubdir, I was asked to publicize our rush events as much
as possible exactly when both of the jobs I held for the summer got hectic.
The end of the summer approached and both of my employers realized that there
were still many things to accomplish by the start if the term. As a result,
I worked hard enough that people heard me utter such unthinkable phrases as,
"It's ok. Things will calm down when the term starts." Nevertheless,
everything was done and done well.

2. I am competant. If I volunteer for a job, my faith in my ability to do that
job is strong. As I have accepted nominations for both SVP and Treasurer, I
feel that I could do an excellent job at either one. I ran for ASC on that
faith, and the office tends to be a comfortable place to be, as I clean it
every two to four days.

3. I am organized and efficient (maybe even overly compulsive, a trait which
wouldn't be a bad thing for either of these jobs). During my stint as Book
Exchange Treasurer, all of the books were disposed of in less than two weeks
from the final deadline to pick up books.

4. I am in the office frequently. This is important for both SVP and Treasurer,
as both need to be very accessible. Frustrated PCs, disgruntled brothers,
and apologetic organizations all need to be able to contact people in either of
these positions.

5. I am persistent. I will work and work and work at something if I think
it's possible. For SVP, this means I will keep calling and calling and calling
if I want a project with a group and have not gotten a response. For treasurer
this means I'll work through the books over and over if something is not
correct or if someone needs to pay their debts.

6. I will not be thoroughly hosed next term. I'm only taking 4 classes as
opposed to my norm of 5, and one of the classes I'm taking is Transportation
Lab. I highly doubt that counting buses will really take up all that much of
my time. I've also got a job at the Program in Women's Studies, but that's a
very flexible schedule, as many of the things I do for them can be done
afterhours. In addition, I tend to visit home more frequently than most, so
I might disappear frequently, but for short periods of time.

	Qualifications specific to SVP:

1. I haven't been around long enough to know what our "usual" projects are,
so I will be very likely to try new things.

2. I know this sounds kind of like a silly thing to list as a qualification,
but I have an excellent phone manner. I've always taken care of arrangements
by phone for my family. I've been a fairly successful telemarketter (and
let me tell you, it's REAL tough to sound cheerful and enticing when discussing
accidental death and dismemberment insurance), and my job at Women's Studies
includes a significant amount of phone work. I'm quite used to tracking people
down by phone, and, in some strange twisted way, I like it.

3. I am eager to learn what the chapter prefers with respect to projects, and
I'm eager to try to accomodate those needs and desires.

	Qualifications specific to Treasurer:

1. Experience. I've been through treasury training, and I've been Book Exchange
Treasurer. I handle the financial aspect of running the apartment in which I
live. I would obviously need a practical refresher in treasury specific to the
chapter, but I pick up skills in very little time.

2. I love arithmetic. That's silly, right? You guys probably always consider
problems done when you've gotten them down to the arithmetic. I love the
numbers. Don't ask me why. I always have. Numbers, like cleaning, make me
very happy. :)

3. I like to accomplish things. I don't like to see things I have to do
linger. Notes on the board and soda/candy/tshirt/food sign-outs would be
processed in a very timely manner. I don't like to have things hanging over my
head.

-------------------------------------------
I have not yet had time to discuss what the requirements of the offices are
with people who have previously held that position because I've been more
hosed than I could have imagined was possible. Ask me about the last month or
so. Actually, don't. You'll get more than you want. I do intend to hunt
multiple people down post haste. (Beware the Lizzie! She's armed and curious.)

In general, I feel that I am a strong candidate for an office. I feel that I
offer the chapter a lot in both energy and dedication. While I have not yet
found out exact what each of these positions entails, both of these positions
seem from the sidelines to be appropriate matches for my drive and interests..
If you think I'm the best man for the job, vote for me.
