I just got this message from someone looking for last-minute
help. It looks kind of interesting, so on the slim chance that
anyone's not already hosed this weekend...you might want to get
in touch with this person.

Hello,

I am looking for volunteers to help run a Physics Olympiad on
Sunday, Oct 22 (this sunday) I know this is late notice and I am
to blame for this, but if anyone can spare the time, I would
appreciate it greatly. Tomorrow (Saturday) i will be running
around Boston frantically trying to get materials, etc, for the
Olympiad. It woudl be great if someone help do these
preparations; Also, we need lots of people to run and judge and
proctor the Olympiad events for most of the day (Just a few hours
of your time would be greatly appreciated), particularly in the
morning before 11:00. I also have quite a problem to solve,
which is the following: There is a bridge competition in which
students were to build a one-yard something0or-=other that was to
be judged according to how much it holds. We need to figure out
how to judge this competition, and we also need to figure out
what to do if they brought steel rods, or actually put effort
into it and made something as strong as steel rods. How do we
set up/score this competition so as to be fair and also make it
worthwhie to the students for having worked on it for so long?

I understand that this is extremely late notice but I am sort of
in a bit of a bind and thought I'd take a shot and ask anyway.
Ifyou have any questions, please call me at 876-4974 or 253-4882
or page me at 644-9302 or email. Paging would work best though
because as I said i will be running around getting stuff
together.

Thanks!

Valerie Samn
