A few days ago, Yale and I, and several others, were sitting in the
office talking about how leadership could be promoted in the chapter. Most of
the ideas we came up with related to generating larger-scale projects to
provide brothers with more independent leadership opportunities.

These independent PCships would allow brothers with little or no major
experience organizing a project to be responsible for a section of a major
project, and have more than just a phone-calling or shopping trip to organize.
By being in charge of organizing and supervising people, the brother will have
an oportunity to experience the responsibility of leadership while not feeling
as though he is the sole responsible party. There would be an uberPC and
such-like to coordinate all of the independent sections of the project.

Project ideas we came up with included construction of a playground,
running institute functions(open house, etc.), and repeated service. The idea
of repeated service is that we concenterate some of our efforts on improving
the conditions for a small group(i.e. Rosie's Place, a certain camp, etc.).

I'm sending this out to apo-news so that everyone has advance
warning that I'm planning to bring this up at the next chapter meeting. I'm
not expecting the chapter to make a decision NOW about it. What I want to do
is bring the idea to the attention of the brothers (and soon-to-be-pledges)
so that people can be thinking about it and something can happen before all of
the fire is gone from the chapter.

If you have an opinion on this matter, please try to be at this
tuesday's chapter meeting. This article will be published in the APOc, so
don't worry about needing to refer to the email message. It'll all be in
print by Tuesday. If you can't be at the meeting, and you can't send your
opinion in to the APOc <apocrypha@mit.edu> by sunday 5pm, try to get the word
out to hte chapter what you think. I invite mold and advisors to comment on
the matter, as it is often useful to have another point of view on a situation.

	YiLFS,

	Charley Hamilton
