Hi all,
The winner of the 37th annual Institute Screw Competition was
announced at tonight's award ceremony: Professor Steve Leeb, for
classes 6.115 and 6.131! Votes for him totaled an amazing $1,375.81.
The complete sum raised on behalf of all candidates, $2,629.63, will
be donated to Professor Leeb's designated charity: Pine Street Inn, a
homeless shelter in Boston. Professor Leeb will keep the Institute
Screw trophy for the coming year, handing it off to its next recipient
in spring 2012.
Runners-up were Professor Craig Carter, in second place, with $413.11,
and Professor Pavel Etingof, in third place, with $221.90;
additionally, among the votes for Professor Etingof was a copy of a
drop form for his class. Each of these two runners-up received a jar
of regularly-sized screws.
A huge "thank you!" to everyone who participated, campaigned, and
voted! You made the Big Screw contest a success. Totals from Friday
and a summary of the whole week can be found below.
See you next year,
Josh
