Purpose: discussing bylaws amendments
following:
/mit/apo/AdHoc_Committees/Rules/Amendments/RulesComm2009/AmendmentsS11.pdf
---------------
(only amendments with significant discussion noted here)
pg.3
sophical: rephrase again? say, as the governing docs were 3 weeks ago
pg.4
typo in active vs. associate
rephrase sentence about voting for less awkward phrasing?
pg.6
change "active" to "active or associate"
if you jump down from active to inactive, cannot get dues back, but can renounce vote/ part of quorum.
pg.7
undergraduate student, or student? include people who were members as faculty?
also, grad students can be actives.
should alumni overlap with active membership?
current wording says "all advisors are alumni"
let grad students decide which category they'd like to be in?
grad students could be "inactive" for us, and part of the alumni association?
honorary members can't be alums?
advisors can be alums after they are done being advisors.
put in a clause of "you can only be one of the following things"
pg.9
catherio: opposed to exec deciding this- wants exec to make no recommendation.
avoid juggling of hats of president vs. keeping proceedings within the chapter. advisor is less likely to be involved in whatever is going on.
oremanj: agrees with catherio- against amendment.
pg.13
MVP implies more interaction with retention, brotherhood requirements, recruitment than PVP.
could fix this by stating roles in bylaws
leave discussion for chapter meeting
pg.17
standing policy to go along with this
pg.19
numbers can be discussed
exec includes the officer being removed?
they can attend the meeting- removes ugly secrecy. they just may be outvoted, and should be allowed to present their case.
pg.21
add applicable laws
pg.27
remove "on campus" to imply off-campus as well?
pg.29
reword in case nationals changes their requirements to match theirs?
ended on pg.33
meeting ended at 9:40pm.

Reports:
oremanj: special exec meeting after this meeting to discuss bylaws amendments
--
slehmann: report from conclave bid committee. first choice weekend 3/30-4/1, end of our spring break. also, backup weekends surrounding. themes ideas: intergalactic and time travelers conclave seem popular. thoughts?
alexwest: time travelers conclave means you can dress like anything
catherio: can reuse 80s, 40s, etc. clothes from previous conclaves
shawest: give different chapters suggested eras?
slehmann: encourage chapters to pick an era for themselves?
shawest: "best conclave of all time?"
slehmann: i can't be at conclave, so catherio, oremanj, afarrell will help with the bid
slehmann: if someone wants to plan a video, step up?
jaxxson: could do a roll call, but will not be at conclave.
oremanj: also need to set up hotel logistics. last time we got the BU gym, and that didn't go over well. also, we could do just one night, like saturday noon- sunday night.
ellen: need to leave 5-6 hours for travel.
oremanj: one more conclave committee meeting? do we need to vote on a theme now, or leave it to the committee?
slehmann: informal straw poll
(more prefer time travelers conclave)
[break for food]
sophical: rulescomm had a meeting. blanche yourself onto apo-rulescomm if you're interested. we caught up on what we had done 2 years ago. they are in the locker in /mit/apo/AdHoc_Committees/Rules/Amendments/RulesComm2009
execcomm needs to talk about the amendments, then present to the next chapter meeting, then vote at the final chapter meeting. many are long overdue (PVP vs. MVP).
oremanj: we need to make a recommendation for the voting meeting.
ellen: exec can recommend "no opinion"
sophical: we have enough signiatures on the petition
