1. What.

For those new to the phrase, "Fulton's Folly" is the every-July-4th outing
to the Esplanade to listen to the concert and watch the fireworks. And
invariably, someone asks me what's involved in setting it up.

It's very easy.

You wake up.
You take a shower.
You grab some food, some suntan lotion, some games, maybe a blanket or two.
You walk over before 3pm.
You join the crowds.

Sometimes people organize food for groups. Don't organize food for a
billion people. Organize food for you, your roommate, and your SOs.

2. Why.

Some like to fry in the sun. :) Some like to just hang out where there's
fresh air, the river nearby, and a bunch of friends. Some like the
bodywatch the crowds. A few come to listen to the concert. Most come
because of the fireworks.

If you hate crowds, sunlight, wind, or mostly staying put in one place for
a long time, don't come. It'd be silly.

3. Where.

North is defined as the direction from MIT towards Harvard Square via Mass
Ave. Or in other words, "Institute" North, and not necessarily magnetic
North.

3A. From the Harvard Bridge.
	1. Start on the east side of the bridge.
	2. Walk across. When you get to the ramps, go down.
	3. At the base of the ramp, turn left.
	4. At every fork, go leftwards. If you fall off the path and
drown, well, serves you right.
	5. Find people.

3B. From the Longfellow Bridge.
	1. Walk across.
	2. Turn right. You'll have to meander around the Hatch Shell; i'm
not sure how the paths around there work.
	3. Find people.

``Find people'' is not very well defined, I realize. There are two usual
hangouts.

The first is:
	after you've crossed a bridge,
and have walked past the long stretch and are now under some trees,
then the first spot will be near the trailing edge of those trees,
to either side of the path.

The second is:
	keep walking,
you'll see some docks on your left and one lonesome tree also on
    your left,
	under that tree.

Sometimes people (like APO people) get really adventurous and setup a tarp
to block off the worst of the sun. <shrug>

4. When.

It's a really good idea to get there by noon;
before 3pm is not essential,
but after 6pm it'll won't be possible to get to us. Or anywhere, really.

The festivities end around 11:30pm.

5. How much.

Bring stuff, not money. Yes, there are ice cream and hot dog vendors, but
they're (of course) expensive.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

6. Who.

Pretty much everybody in Boston.

7. Details.

1. Don't bring more than you can carry. Nor should you bring expensive
stuff. This would be a bad day to bring your really expensive Magic deck.
2. Bring a flashlight -- it helps for cleanup after the concert.
3. Water is a good idea, especially lots of it.
4. LaVerde*s will be open on July 4th for your shopping convenience.
5. Games are good.
6. And remember, nothing is sacred, including where you sit and with whom
you sit.
