In addition to your summer UROP or other technical job, you could
do volunteer work and get credit for it! (But you might have to
pay summer tuition for it -- check with Tobie.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OVER THE SUMMER FOR CREDIT!
The undergraduate seminar, 17.903, "Community Service: Experience &
Reflection" will be offered this summer.
In the class students volunteer at various placements all over
Boston/Cambridge (students choose their own placements with guidance
from the department), from 4-9 hours/week. The units of credit received
are determined by hours/week.
Students are responsible for completing 3 brief packets of reading
(about 40 pages each), writing 1-2 page response papers on the readings,
attending 3 classes and keeping a journal of their experiences.
The class is alot of fun. In the class sessions students discuss their
placements as well as the readings. Discussion topics often focus on
areas students are working. This semester we chose problems of urban
teens, race, ethnicity and racism, and education reform. The class is
different each term and it can be repeated for credit.
There will be an orientation session for the class on THURSDAY, JUNE 14
AT 4:00 PM IN E53-482.
If anyone has any questions about the class send email or call Tobie
