1) Professors are starting to come to me asking for Mosaic for their
Macs or PCs. I have Mosaic on a mac, that's only painful for me, but
I don't have any PCs on the net at the moment, so can only hope what
I give them will work.
	a) Is there a place where Mosaic for Mac and associated
files can be obtained via AppleShare?
	b) What's the status of MACtcp 2x here now? I understand 1.1.1
is freely available, but Mosaic says it needs 2.x
(though I've seen no problems with 1.1)
	c) Is QuickTime freely redistributable (at least within MIT)?
[To be honest, I think I know the answers to the above and found them
on AppleShare, but I'd like a definitive answer]

	d) For the PC, I understand Cello's better, Mosaic 2 is in
testing. I vaguely understand that win32s is something freely
distributable you add to Windows 3.1 to let it use 32bit windows
software such as Mosaic 2. I even more vaguely understand that
winsock.zip needs to be added to Windows to let it talk TCP/IP.

	e) What other windows programs are needed to produce a
functioning system? Does it use external programs for jpegs, ps,
mpeg, etc.?

2) I wish there were / want there to be / want to set up a local ftp
site that can be used to distribute the complete packages for PC and
MAC. And pointers and instructions in the SIPB or IS www servers to
get these clients (I believe I can point people to athena, get them to
start Mosaic, and then go back to their PC and fire up fetch or ftp,
or turn on Appleshare, and not have to give them N floppy disks,
though perhaps I overestimate their net-awareness).

3) Is there / there ought to be / a set of html tools in some locker
at athena. foo-to-html, html-analysers, html-editors, etc.

4) I'm looking for a good logfile parser. Anyone use anything good?
I've seen a few, none look that good or coredumped when I tried them.

I think that's it for now, other than suggesting you take a look at
the Course 3 web server http://tantalum.mit.edu/ and let me know how
you like it. There's pressure to liven up the home page with more
graphics, but I'm resisting it because 1) it'll be slow on
non-workstations 2) it'll be less usable 3) it'll be ugly on text-only
access. Any help supporting my position, or any reasonable ways of
making it sexier but still efficient and respectable are most welcome.

Thanks,
Craig
