I was looking at http://www.w3.org/pub/WWW/Protocols/Specs.html
and browsing through the various documents there. One of the
proposals listed under "performance issues" talks about a GETALL
method and a GETLIST method.

There seem to have been many suggestions for ways to implement
persistent connections. Were all of them been dropped in favour
of "Connection: Keep-Alive" (before HTTP/1.1 came along)?
