Dave-
The scale of the possibility for mis-use is different between
the examples of someone rooting in garbage for credit card slips and
someone collecting transactions online.
One person in the right place might be able to collect a large
number of such transactions with very little effort. This is hard
to imagine doing if dumpster-diving is involved. There are the
first-level issues of credit-abuse, and the second-level issues of
privacy -- yet another way your purchase-history can become public
knowledge.
