I'm one of the people who helped write the HTML spec, and
HTTP come to that.
I have no idea who Laura Lemay is.
I know that the folks at NCSA put several bits of junk into
the system here and there but I didn't know they had used
comments to embed objects into Web pages.

And who are you, Laura Lemay? Though that is the HTML comment form,
anyone who's ever worked with an HTTP server (and not just FrontPage)
knows what SSI is. I guess I'm just missing your point? If you don't
like the way it works, maybe you should talk to NCSA.. they wrote the
standard.
