>>The fact that one cannot anymore distinguish (easily at least)
>>a real vs. fake virus is in and of itself a virus
1. Presumption: It's not a virus. I usually isn't. You have a quality
anti-virus program anyway, right?
2. Monitor Virus-l/comp.virus
3. Unless an alert comes from a source you recognize as credible, ignore it
until either it shows up on virus-l or _does_ come from a credible source.
4. If you see it on the WWW-Security list, ignore it. I don't remember a valid
virus alert on this list in at least two years. Every mention of a virus on
this list is either bad information or people trying to correct bad information.
This list does not have high quality virus information. It does have endless
threads of marginal information. The only a/v authority I can recall posting to
this list is Dave Chess. So again, if you see it here, ignore it.
5. If you absolutely, positively have to know RIGHT NOW, contact techincal
support for _your_ anti-virus program. It comes with the license fee. If it is
a new virus, the vendors will be anxious to help to get credit for a fresh kill.
Get what you paid for.
6. As a last resort, post to virus-l/comp.virus.
Mail replies will be answered, not to the list please.
???!!!???CAN WE PLEASE, PLEASE KILL THIS TOPIC NOW???!!!???
