Hello Phil,
I can understand the feelings expressed by the sentiment that we should
have 'a new list'. However, I feel this would be detrimental to the whole
discussion process for a variety of reasons.
Maybe the suggestion last week that the list be moderated would be a good
one to keep off-topic and spam emails out of our mailboxes. This would
require more of a co-ordination effort, but would probably pay back
bigtime as the list would then be more topic specific. We also wouldn't
get the flood of 'distressed' users emailling to get themselves unsubscribed.
Also, if you were to create another mailing list, all the bone-fide users
here would have to go through the hasle of unsubscribing from one list and
subscribing to another. Also, that would not inherently prevent the floods
of crap email from doofus companies trying to 'promote' their latest
products and such like.
Maybe the time has come for an RFD/RFC on the actual working status and
mechanism for this mailing list.
I, for one, would not like to see a list with such potential go 'bye bye'...
