I rather like this idea of Phill's, except for the chat room. I've
found using chat rooms to be rather like looking for a policeman --
no-one's ever around when you need them, and they're a damned nuisance
other times.

I'd be happy to host such a web (I even administer a moo that could
serve up a chat room), with some irony since I'm trading security for
flexibility here -- it is an educational site for, among other things,
research into web-based collaboration.

Still, the devil is in the details; anyone with interest in or
suggestions for rolling our own collaborative software, methods of
shared modification of public documents done in a reliable manner,
please drop me a line. I'm envisioning documents that could be
retrieved via the web with interspersed entry-forms for amplification
or rebuttal -- use the netscape upload feature and some sort of
membership authentication. Sort of like web conference software
folded into document structure.

We'll see if there's enough interest to make this fly.
