credit card security question

I have just subscribed to this list, and don't know if this question has
been asked here before. Please forgive me if the question is already
answered.
I am writing an on-line ordering page with credit card information. What I
would like to do is to transmit these numbers in a secure way so that
nobody, except authorized personal, can see it and use it.
Is there a way of doing this? I know comerence net is doing something like
this, but not sure if they have a solution.
Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.
