Actually, we archive many mailing list by filtering mailing list mail out 
through procmail to a wonderful program called hypermail:

<URL:http://www.eit.com/software/hypermail/hypermail.html>

Very easy to install and maintain (it maintains itself).

Stay away from HyperNews.  Lots of bugs and complex configuration. Maybe 
in the future the authors will clean this up
