Really! Frankly, I'm surprised that such obviously intelligent people can be 
spewing such blatantly ignorant commentary...

I would agree that the media doesn't always get the story straight or the facts 
perfect. And I did think that NYT piece left MUCH to be desired. But, as a 
member of the press, I can tell you it aint an easy task to become an expert on 
something incredibly complex and confusing in what often amounts to a week's 
time under painfully tight deadline while juggling four other stories of 
equally difficult content at the same time and get everything perfect. I'm not 
excusing errors or laziness or the mishandling of information. But I am asking 
the more critical of you to recognize that the press, for all its shortcomings, 
is still largely responsible for getting issues out to the public for 
education, for discussion and also, for criticism by those who disagree with a 
point of view or those who simply know more. Some of us are still idealists and 
some of us still do our absolute best to get to the truth. Some publications 
clearly outshine others in that regard, but to group us all together under one 
insulting heading is...well...stupid.
