TKD 178: The invective {va} is actually just a shortened form of {Qu'vatlh}.

It is used to show "only slight anger or distemperment" (Mark Shoulson, HQ 3.1).

AFAIK it's never been used by Okrand, but I've seen good examples in the Klingonist community:

va, tujqu'!
Phew! What a scorcher! (Katz)

va, yorIq Do'Ha'!
Alas, poor Yorick! (GP:HOMLET)

va, Do'Ha' yorIq!
Alas, poor Yorick! (TKH)

toH va!
Alas! (Qes, chIjwI' tIQ bom [Rime of the Ancient Mariner])
