I prefer to recast it, so I don't have to rely too much of motion. After al=
l, I'm from Stockholm even when I'm moving *towards* Stockholm, or - as I a=
m now - quite stationary within it.

If I'm wondering where somebody is originally from, then something like {nu=
qDaq bIboghpu'?}, or possibly {munglIj nuq?}.

If I'm wondering where somebody's home is (as this may be different from th=
eir place of birth), then the {Daq DaDabbogh yIngu'!} example works. Or, ma=
ybe use some construct like {juH [veng/yoS/Sep/yuQ/qIb]lIj nuq?}.

With tongue burrowed deep into cheek, I might suggest {chay' bInov?}.

I'm putting together a list of "Beginner's Conversation" sentences that peo=
ple can use at qepHom/'a'.

Aside from the usual "what's your name?" and so on, I was trying to render =
"where are you from?"

What do people think of {nuqvo' bIghoS?} or {nuqvo' bIpaw}? I don't think a=
nything's wrong with {nuqvo'}, but might that be confusing to beginners? Wh=
at's a way of saying "where are you from?" which a beginner can easily pars=
e?

Note that this is a separate question from {Daq DaDabbogh yIngu'} "where do=
you live?" which comes from canon.
