I ran into exactly this problem in translating The Man in the Panther Skin=
=2C and rendered it with {jupoywI'} "my beloved friend".

I don't see why they wouldn't. English does things very similarly to Klingo=
n: a man's "buddy" or "mate" is almost always a man=2C and conversely a wom=
an's "girlfriend" (when she's not using that term to refer to her romantic =
partner) is always a woman. That doesn't put restrictions on what kinds of =
friendships one is able to have=2C or with whom.
