I suspect that a list of word pairs wouldn't be protected by copyright,
especially if there was value added to the list. By value added, I'm
thinking of the list that you would get the list of Klingon to English
combined with the list of English to Klingon (but swapped so that it to
is Klingon to English as well). You would get some duplicate entries this
way, but the Mark I Klingon Dictionary doesn't have a complete 1-1 E to K,
K to E.
Now a dictionary is another matter. If you type it in verbatim, well, that
would be a violation. But if you happen to create two lists like:
List1: Klingon-word English-word part-of-speech translation/meaning
List2: English-word Klingon-word part-of-speech translation/meaning
where the first two columns come from the combined list and the
translation/meaning is a paraphrase *in your own words*, then the
copyright shouldn't apply. Of course, this is my understanding of the
law and such *and* I'm not a lawyer in any universe...
I would love to have such a list - even if I have to make my own!
