[justifying "They call the wind 'Mariah'" as "Mariah" SuS lupong.]
>(unflagged adverbial noun-phrases are already attested, e.g. "vagh rep
>bImejnIS" from the tape: checkout time is 0500h).
This is a very fast and loose generalization to make. This is a case
of telling time, which is a very special case. (In fact, this example
breaks the rule stated on the tape for telling time, and should be
"vagh vatlh rep bImejnIS".) Explicit permission is given to use
time-nouns (today, tomorrow, years ago, etc.) as adverbs, but I don't
see any blanket permission to do so anywhere.
On a note which seemed related when I started writing this:
As far as I am able to tell, Klingon does not have an appositive
construction. One cannot say "Spock, the famous Vulcan, is on Romulus"
as simply
romuluSDaq ghaH "Spock" vulqangan noy
to my knowledge. One must instead say something like:
romuluSDaq ghaH vulqangan noy ghaHbogh "Spock".
"Spock, who is a famous Vulcan, is on Romulus."
Am I correct in assuming tlhIngan Hol has no appositive construction?
