Here are some very brief responses to a few things in the ton of stuff that
deluged me once mail started functioning again here.

A.APPLEYARD put out a bunch of questions about clauses. The ones about
relative clauses are addressed in FTGD, HolQeD 1.2 or 1.3, I forget which,
and have been discussed here before. Eli: This is something else that
needs to go into the FAQ. I have the article online if anyone can't get
at HolQeD. Again, this is the old yaS'e' qIppu'bogh HoD issue.

The issue of the meaning of the explitives came up. My early investigations
of translations of them was so fruitless that my conclusion is that it is
just coincidence that some of the pieces look like other words. I think we
have to assume, for the most part at least, that these are just homonyms,
and have no literal translation that we know of.

The issue of the name of the Klingon home world came up. The story I heard
from Okrand was that they came to him to come up with a name for the home
world (when they did the Nextrek episode that took them there). He submitted
a bunch of names for them to pick from, but in the end, they decided to fall
back on "the Klingon home world". Yet, yes, the tape does seem to think that
it's Qo'noS. And then there are the arguments for "tlhIng" or "tlhIngSay".
My pet theory is that the planet goes by an *awful lot* of names, much to
the confusion of outworlders, who, dazed by the whole mess, fall back on
"the Klingon home world" (someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but as I remembe
r
it, that phrase has only been used by FedHeads-- not native Klingons (Worf
counts as a FedHead)).

Doug put out an initial introduction message and asked for corrections on his
Klingon, of which a few are in order. Did he get answered sufficiently? It
looked like there was some discussion of his stuff, but if not, I'll jump in.
Somebody let me know.

And finally:
