This is just a silly thing that came up last week - I thought it amusing
enough to share...
I was home visiting my parents for Easter, and so also got a chance to visit
my hometown friends. One of them, Krenath, is a fellow Klingonophile.
When I first saw him, I greeted him with "Pesach Sameach!" - which is the
Hebrew equivalent of "Happy Passover!", appropriate at the time. However,
neither of us is Jewish, so he was not expecting any such thing to come out of
my mouth; instead, he stood there for several minutes trying to translate it ou
t
of tlhIngan Hol.
This intrigued me enough to get out the mu'ghom and try it. With only minor
mangling of the pronunciation (changing the 's's to 'S's and inserting a
glottal stop), I got the following:
peSaH Sa'mey yaH
Translation:
peSaH - care!, plural imperative
Sa'mey - generals scattered all about
yaH - he/she/it takes him/her/it/them away; they take them away
or, put together and loosely translated,
"You'd better care! They're taking generals away all over the place!"
Something to worry about, indeed...
