Whew! That's enough for now. I have a few questions, which I'll
ask in English, if you don't mind:
* In HolQed vol 2, no 1, Will Martin corrects David Barron's translation
of "I speak to you" to "SoHDaH jIjatlh". What is the -DaH suffix on
SoH? Is this a typo for -Daq? I would have said "SoHvaD jIjatlh";
is this wrong?
* Someone recently posted a translation of Tolkien's Ring inscription.
I haven't seen any comments on it, but some of it puzzled me. The
translation of "for the Elven-kings" is given as "elDa'joHmeHvaD".
Is the -meH just a typo for -mey? If not, what is it? And shouldn't
it be pu' anyway, unless its a deliberate use of the "scattered about"
meaning? The same thing occurs in the next line, where "for the Dwarf-
lords" is translated "nawqo'joHmeHvaD", but "for Mortal Men" is
translated "HumanmeyvaD jubbe'".
* In my introduction, I wanted to say "I've been studying Klingon for
a short time", but I couldn't figure out how to say "for a short time".
How would that be said?
* A recent posting by marqem also has me puzzled. I understand the
first part: ""TIME" ghItlhDaq HoD Qanqor vIQochbe'" means "I agree
with Captain Krankor in TIME magazine", right? But I can't figure
out "wa'logh batlh mech verengan nID neH, nIteb Dun 'oH 'e'
(tera' "donkey" jatlh vIyajchugh)". Help?
Oh, one more bit of Klingon, which you may find useful if you work in
a building with overly aggressive security guards:
