Mark, Ken, et al.

Mark makes a good point in that Okrand *avoids* using any linguistic
terms in TKD.  That is of course so that them people out there in the
lingustically-challenged :-) real-world can attempt to pronounce them.

I would presume that Okrand's description of /S/ is *not* about the
articulation of /S/ as being medial between s and sh, but *sounding*
as if between s and sh.  Retroflex s /s./ has *always* sounded that
way to my ear:  between s and sh, even though it has a point of
articulation posterior to sh.
